Eden Platform contains a unique optimization engine that analyzes your page content and then walks you through the process of increasing your optimization score to optimize each page for the search engines. This is accomplished through the optimization panel that is displayed above the page editing interface.

Every page has an overall score from 1 to 100 that represents its current level of optimization. As you edit your Content elements this score will be updated each time you hit save. To increase your page score follow the suggestions displayed in the optimization.

The highest priority suggestion is automatically displayed in the optimization panel. To view all suggestions simply click on 'view all' to expand the list. The suggestions that need the most work are highlighted in red and yellow and suggestions that are already performing well are highlighted in green. As you make the changes indicated in each suggestion your page optimization score will increase.

Setting Your Targets

Before you start optimizing a page you need to set your optimization goals. While editing a page, click the Settings button to view the optimization settings for that page (this button is located near the top-left hand corner of the editing interface). Find the SEO Target Keywords field within the settings interface and enter up to three target keyphrases (one or more words) separated by commas. These phrases should represent the searches that your most qualified prospective customers are likely to enter into the search engines when they are looking for your products or services.

For example, if you want online searchers to find your website when they search for "produce delivery North Carolina," enter these phrases into the target keywords field. For "North Carolina" you might also add the abbreviation "NC." Once you have determined your SEO Target Keywords copy and paste them into the Meta Keywords field as well. You will want these two fields (SEO Target Keywords and Meta Keywords) to be identical.

Tip: If you think you need more than three keyphrases consider creating another page to focus on the additional key phrases beyond three. Using fewer keyphrases provides the best focus for a page and will help it rank higher in the search engines.

Next, enter a short page description into the Meta Description field. This description may be used as part of the search engines' profile for your website. Use pursuasive language to convince online searchers to visit your page instead of other pages that will rank beside your page in the search engine result pages.

For example, instead of entering the description "list of North Carolina fruits and vegetables" which is simply informative, use a description like "Come see our fresh and beautiful North Carolina fruits and vegetables" which is more pursuasive.

Other important factors to proper optimization:

  • Get inbound links from other high quality, optimized websites from within your company's industry link to you.  This is known as authority building.
  • Update your website often.  You must set a realistic content schedule that you can stick to.  Create at least 1 or 2 optimized, keyword-rich pages every week.  Don't have anything to write about?  Here are 6 common unknown sources of website content.
  • Your website is equiped with a sitemap that is contstantly communicating with Google to let them know when you're making changes.  This way, Google knows when to spider your site for new content, helping them provide the most relevant search results.
  • Use Eden to create a blog.
  • Use your Eden RSS feed.
  • Use the "similar pages" element.  One of the ways the search engines understand the pages within your website is by following the maze of links from each page to the next while taking note of the words you use to describe each page as you link your visitors to each destination page. This means that creating text links throughout your website, using the target keywords of the destination page specified by each link, will help the search engines get a better understanding of what each page is about. But that isn't always so easy to actually do. Enter the Related Pages Element in Eden.

Adding this element on a page of your website will ensure that that page takes full advantage of its linking power to educate the search engines about other similar pages on your website. Eden's Related Pages Element automatically queries Eden's built-in keyword engine to find other pages of your site that are highly optimized for any keywords that overlap with the keywords that the current page is being optimized for. This means that after placing this element on a page just once, it will continue to advise the search engines on the keyword topics of your most important pages, and it will automatically adjust as new optimized content and pages are created on your website over time.
