Take Your Eden Website Live at Your Domain Name

There are three important steps to taking your Eden website live at your own domain name.

Step One:

First, you need add the domain name to your account inside of Eden. You can do this by logging into your Eden website. Click on the Dashboard link at the top of the page if you are not taken to the dashboard automatically. Click the My Domains button on the Dashboard to view the domain name management interface. Enter your new domain name (in the format: www.mydomainname.com) in the box beside the 'Add a Domain' heading and click the ADD button. Next, enter just your domain name, without the 'www.' prefix (in the format: mydomainname.com) in the box beside the 'Add a Domain' heading and click the Add button again. Now you should see both names in the list under the heading 'Forwarding Domain Names,' in the format www.mydomainname.com and mydomainname.com.

Step Two:

Second, follow the instructions that are displayed under the heading 'Point Your Domains to Eden' in order to point your domain name to the Eden service using your domain registrar. Your domain registrar is the company that you purchased your domain name from.

Step Three: (optional but recommended)

Third, after you have pointed your domain to Eden with your domain registrar, you can select one of your domains to be the primary domain for your website. Setting a primary domain is important because it allows the search engines to understand which domain name you prefer for your website. This reduces the potential that the search engines will penalize you for having the same content at multiple domain names (this is called a duplicate content penalty).

Typically businesses select a domain with the 'www.' prefix as their primary domain but any domain can be selected. Be careful not to set a domain as your primary domain until you have completed step two of this process. If you do this too early your website may be unavailable for a period of time until you properly point your domain to Eden with your domain registrar. To verify that you have properly pointed your domain name to Eden with your domain registrar, just type that domain name into the URL address bar in a new web browser window. If you are directed to your Eden website then the domain registrar pointer is working properly.
