Camping Management

Know what you have. Take what you need.

This file is a Microsoft Word file whose headings are in outline format, a perfect tool for working with lists. To turn outlining on and off, click View in the menu bar and select between Outline and Normal view. If you are unfamiliar with the outlining features, spend a few minutes in the Help section on outlining to get the basics.

A camping check list should be used in several ways.

Organizer. It serves as a reminder of things you don't want to forget when you are gathering your gear and preparing to leave.

Inventory. Modify or change this check-off list to be an inventory of what outdoor equipment you do have. That is, delete items on this list you do not have and add the things you do. If there is too much to delete, simply open a new file and start your own list and use the headings in this list as a model from which to build. However you do it, have your own list.

Finder. Print out this list and check-off or circle which items you do take. This not only helps when you return to see that everything has been returned and put back where you can find it, but it helps on the trail when you are trying to remember whether you can find something that you hope you packed.

Wishlist. Use this list as a place to keep a wish-list of items you'd like to have, as each time you are out, others around you will have new ideas and gear that can be of use. The more detail, the better the list.

The goal is not to take everything. The goal is to know what to take and not to forget it. Know what you have. Take what you need.
